Biography

Christopher Azzopardi is an internationally award winning photographer and painter. In his work he is greatly influenced by the great painters of the Renaissance and Baroque period. Between 1987 and 1993 he studied art at the state school of art in Malta from where he obtained a diploma in Fine Arts. In 1992, Chris was awarded two scholarships in Art; one from the Italian Cultural Institute and the other from the French Embassy. In Italy he studied figure drawing and engraving at the Accademia Di Belle Arti – Pietro Vannucci Di Perugia. In Perugia he awarded first prize in engraving.

Between 1995 – 1999, Chris has studied Art at the University of Malta where he specialized in the teaching of Art. Therefore, his daily profession is that of an Art teacher in Savio College, Dingli. From the year 1999 to 2017 he has taught computer graphics on a part time basis at the University of Malta. Between 2007 and 2010 he taught photography at University of Malta to B.ED and PGCE students. At present he also teaches photography and editing at Art Academy in Mosta.

In 2011 and 2012 he was asked by SWPP in UK (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) to give master classes in London. These sessions were about Environmental Portraiture, Traditional Portraiture and still life which were heavily attended by professional photographers.

Chris’ passion for photography started in 2004 to capture unique moments of his daughter who at that time was only a few months old.

He has won countless competitions both locally and internationally, including EU photo competition 2009, European Safety Federation 2009, Judges Choice Award by the SWPP 2009, 2010 and 2011. SWPP 2009 Photographer of the Year in Fine Arts, SWPP 2009 Photographer of the Year in Publicity and PR, SWPP 2009 Photographer of the Year in Environmental Portraiture, SWPP 2010 Photographer of the year in Traditional Portraiture, SWPP 2011 Photographer of the Year in Interior Architecture, SWPP 2011 Photographer of the Year in Commercial Photography, SWPP 2011 Photographer of the Year in Digital Art, SWPP Overall Winner of Highest Golds in 2009 (69 Golds), SWPP Overall Winner of Highest Golds in 2010 (74 Golds), SWPP Overall Winner of Highest Golds in 2011 (54 Golds), Optimal Photo Contest UK 2010, Best of Show in North Carolina 2007. 1st in the International Online Competiton organised by the Malta Institute of Professional Photography. He has also won the Photographer of the Year for the 7th consecutive year from the Malta Photographic Society.

In his work he tries to capture almost everything such as portraiture, landscape, architecture, nature and still life.

His work has been published in various publications such as magazines, calendars, newspapers and books.
